While the combat system in the areas felt alright, with lots of ways to avoid mindlessly spamming healing items that igavanias love, boss battles were sometimes the opposite of that. The bosses, on the other hand, are terrible (for the most part). A system that would allow you to change your current equipment with a press of a button would be amazing. The fact that the menus are terrible to navigate didn't help. Being able to only equip 2 weapons and 2 spells for a normal playthrough was a chore, because of how often you needed to go to the menu to switch to certain elemental weapons in order to get through a section unscathed. You can equip 2 weapons simultaneously and then always have to adjust to specific enemies with them. There aren't that many enemies to begin with, though they are a part of a bigger problem I'll talk about later. I felt like the combinations were only an annoyance, you can rarely get anything better than maybe dealing some extra damage to an enemy that you can already easily deal with, because the enemies in the game have only one attack and a very simple AI. What I despise is how little the game wants you to use all of the combinations. I do like how the game takes a BotW-like approach with all the elemental combinations, like oil becoming fire after you strike it with either lightning or, well, fire, poison being flamnable, but also disappearing completely if struck with lightning. (And replaying blasphemous which seems like a cakewalk in comparrison, lol), But for some hardcore players this might be totally what they are looking for.Īs said, only 2 hours in so take it with a strong grain of salt but really impressed by what I saw till now. Right now I am at a boss where I just quit for 2 days because its just beyond tough. You can equip 2 weapons simultaneously and then always have to adjust to specific enemies with them.Īlso the story seems surprisingly engrossing and multi-layered regarding the slight h-game style. Also you do have fast moving weapons but they have other trade offs such as very short range. Now that I played it a while exactly this seemed like an absolutely great design choice as it somehow enables a kind of tactical gameplay that I have not yet encountered in any other game! Every enemy you meet is a serious puzzle that you really have to figure out and approach in very varied ways. Watching the trailer while the graphics seemed great I was very sceptical because the combat seemed weirdly clunky. Playing it for 2 hours now, so cant make a definite statement, but from what I saw till now I am seriously surprised.
